When I initially saw the title of this book, I
was prepared for an exploration of hypnosis.
What I wasn’t prepared for was such a
fabulously comprehensive and compelling read. I
am sure this will become one of the major texts
in the field of hypnosis.
This is a long awaited and excellent account of
the multiplicity of hypnosis that will be a
valuable resource for both new and experienced
therapists. It doesn’t get hung up on specific
one-sided approaches to using hypnosis, but
gives the reader ample information to be able to
make an informed choice, that will ultimately
benefit the readers therapeutic work. As well as
telling us about what we need to know, the book
also tells us about the lesser known aspects of
hypnosis. For over a decade I have been
searching for a book like this. Marvellous,
exciting for the profession and a credit to the
author.

For those working with trauma and stress
this book is a very useful addition to
their library. Indeed any therapist
working with these conditions will find
the ideas and strategies in Marlene
Hunters book a valuable source of
practical help to refer to.
Rather than being dogged down by the
mechanics of trauma and stress
‘Healing Scripts’ gives the reader
clear background information on the
likes of pain, stress, panic and anxiety
disorders, including phobias.
Useful sections on depression and
bereavement are included. The suggested
scripts offer much to the practitioner
to adapt and build their therapy, which
is always a welcome tonic when devising
how to approach treatment patterns.
The book is rounded off by exploring
practical treatment strategies within
dissociative disorders, an area far more
common than we may recognise with
clients and patients, which adds to a
deeper knowledge of how to approach such
areas.
The book finishes with some insight
into working with children that will be
helpful to any therapist faced with this
client group.
Overall the book will appeal to those
new to working with the types of trauma
and stress conditions described and will
excite experienced practitioners with
the simplicity of some of the suggestion
scripts used in treating them.

This text is a detailed account of what I consider to be the Master
of Hypnosis and therapy, Milton Erickson. I
would have loved to have met the man in person
to experience being in a room with such a
maestro, but it was never my good fortune to do
so, but this book creates the closest experience
of Erickson.
It covers his philosophies on human
beings and the interactions within themselves
and with others in the world. It demonstrates
how he formed and developed his ideas and it
brilliantly describes what one is looking for
within the client for them to find that ‘the
answers within’.
As you read through the fundamental frameworks
of Ericksonian therapy and the intricate
linguistic and metaphorical frameworks, it is a
challenging read. Thank goodness it is all
brought alive by case studies where the words
can then really resonate within.
This is certainly a necessary read for those
serious about working with hypnosis.

It was always said to me
that there were three private activities
in life, one was teaching, one was being
a therapist and the other? …
well, I probably don’t need to
enlarge upon! Therapy is understandably
very personal and rarely do you get a
chance to see therapy evolve not just in
one session but in a series of sessions.
Seldom can you explore what is
considered someone’s best session from
which you can learn what therapy is
about, nor do you often get the chance
to think about what you consider will be
one of your finest hours in therapy.
How do you
know if you are making a difference? How
do you know what is ‘good therapy’?
How do you know what isn’t? If
you have ever pondered on these
questions, if you are curious about how
therapy actually works or even nosey
about this notion from those considered
on the ‘cutting edge’ of this
amazing profession, if you are looking
for ways of challenging or even simply
expanding upon your own views on what
therapy is about, then this is just what
you are looking for.
There are
twenty-nine fascinating chapters that
draw you into experienced therapists
work and will unquestionably draw you
into your own. What better read, than
honest well thought out opinions and
narratives of therapists at work and not
just one approach to therapy either,
here you will encounter the richness of
many.
On reading
this, you will be inspired, you will
have insights into the inner world of
the therapist, you may well have a
greater vision of your own inner world,
but you will certainly have further
developed your own way of being a master
therapist! |

This book is aimed at how to effectively market
your product, so in our business how to market
ourselves!
I know for me, that not having come from a
background of marketing and being a
therapist, I have struggled to feel comfortable
in the past with “selling myself”. I have
had to learn how to be able to integrate selling
and therapy together so that it doesn’t
compromise my working therapeutic philosophy and
gets me clients.
If in knowing how to encourage people who need
therapy to come in to therapy, then this surely
is a good thing and this very readable book
helps you to consider how to do this.
However, this is not just about
marketing, as it is a really interesting read
regarding human responses and gives an insight
into our emotional world, how we react at a
subconscious level to life and how our brain
processes such information into making a
decision. It therefore gives you insights into
how your clients may operate in their world and
so how you can move the client towards change.
Through
descriptive scientific research and with
practical exercises you can do along the way,
this book gives some useful thought provoking
information that I have certainly taken on board
myself, regarding marketing and also in helping
people change the behaviours that they seek
therapy for. Chapters like: “Framing; I’ll
think about it; and How their brain buys ..
you” all relate to how you present yourself,
how you market yourself and how to be more
effective in therapy. Give it a read. |

I think one of the best ways
to become aware of how therapy works is to read
or hear about other people’s experiences with
clients, along side their thoughts about
therapy.
This book does just
that and so much more. It explores the theory
behind the therapeutic relationship, which I
defy anyone who reads this not to become more
thoughtful about, and the therapist’s
importance in the therapy. It then takes you
through 2 clients that Dave Mearns has
encountered, you read the scripts and his
reflections on them. It is such a relief to know
that it is natural to say something’s where
you cringe as it comes out of your mouth as well
as understanding that being yourself and being
aware of yourself will meet the client in a more
effective, human way, that will make a
difference to them.
He really brings alive the process of therapy
and shows how to think, feel and ‘be’ in the
sessions with clients. This is a really great
read and makes a lot of sense. Well to me
anyway! |

How refreshing!
Here is a book that quite simply does
exactly what the title suggests it does.
However, the reader can unexpectedly
revel in its completeness and
professional approach to linking NLP and
therapy into a weight control package
for clients. The book advocates the
therapist enhancing passion and belief
within those wishing to lose weight and
this book will leave you energised,
excited and eager to make a difference.

This book promotes 'go the extra mile'
and in reading this book you will be
well over half way there! The rest of
the journey is up to you and the book
even helps you with that!
From individuals to groups - to
corporate training - this book provides
the whole 'smoking cessation'
experience, puff by puff, thought by
thought.
There are bags of suggestions, pages of
'what if ...' answers and as many
inspiring induction's as there are
brands of cigarettes! There is even a 55
point check list for the therapy session
and a tips for success list.
The Manual makes fabulous use of
metaphors to demonstrate the smoking
habit and the creation of a new habit of
non smoking. It applies logic to an
illogical behaviour and if you ever
doubted NLP and Hypnotherapy for smoking
cessation then you simply have to read
this book! |
